About Sokolin, LLC
Sokolin is an internationally renowned fine and rare wine retailer founded in 1934, when original owner David Sokolin received New York State liquor license #4 following the repeal of Prohibition. Now in its 92nd year and third generation of family ownership, Sokolin is led today by Dave Sokolin, grandson of the founder, and operates as one of the most respected names in the fine wine industry. The family has not simply participated in the American fine wine market — in many ways, it helped create it.
The company specializes in rare and collectible wines from both long-established and emerging wine-producing regions, serving a customer base that has historically included some of the most prominent names in business, finance, and the arts. For decades, Sokolin has been the trusted wine advisor to Wall Street professionals, collectors, and serious enthusiasts who expect both exceptional selection and a level of service commensurate with their standards. Many of Sokolin's most significant clients treat fine and rare wine as an alternative investment asset, acquiring bottles and cases with the same discipline and long-term perspective they bring to their financial portfolios. Sokolin understands this world as well as anyone: in 1959, Bill Sokolin pioneered the sale of Bordeaux futures in America, allowing collectors to secure allocations of the greatest French wines before they were bottled and released. That tradition of expertise carried forward to the next generation, with Bill authoring "The Complete Wine Investor" and Dave authoring "Investing in Liquid Assets: Uncorking Profits in Today's Global Wine Market," establishing the family as authoritative voices in fine wine investing across two generations. Sokolin's business model is built around a high-touch, relationship-driven sales approach in which dedicated wine professionals guide clients through purchasing decisions, collection management, and long-term acquisition strategy. This concierge model, combined with one of the world's largest selections of fine and rare wine, has earned Sokolin a loyal following and a strong reputation for integrity, expertise, and service.
The company is at an active point of strategic evolution. Leadership is investing in data analytics, AI-enabled tools, and CRM infrastructure to modernize how it understands and serves its customer base, while preserving the trust-based relationships that have defined the business for nearly a century. Students working with Sokolin will have direct access to leadership, real business data, and the opportunity to shape strategy on challenges that are both analytically rigorous and commercially significant.
